The University of Szeged now ranks among the top 2.8% of universities worldwide, following its rise in the 2025 Center for World University Rankings (CWUR). Improving its position by 115 places, SZTE secured 590th place globally and stood out particularly in the area of faculty excellence, where it achieved the highest ranking among Hungarian universities.

The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) evaluates universities based on key indicators such as quality of education, employability of alumni, faculty excellence, citation impact, number of patents, and number of research publications. In the newly released 2025 global rankings, the University of Szeged saw a significant rise – moving up 115 places to claim the 590th position.

Out of nearly 21,500 institutions assessed, only 2,000 were ultimately ranked. This places the University of Szeged among the top 2.8% of universities worldwide. It is also notable that the University of Szeged excelled in the performance of its academic staff, achieving the highest ranking in this area among Hungarian institutions and securing 117th place globally.

A total of seven Hungarian universities were included among the top 2,000 institutions in the Center for World University Rankings. Within this distinguished group, the University of Szeged ranks alongside internationally recognized institutions such as Shaanxi Normal University (China), the Medical University of Innsbruck (Austria), the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science (USA), the University of Oviedo (Spain), and Bocconi University (Italy).

The top of the 2025 CWUR list is dominated by three U.S. institutions: Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Stanford University. These leading universities are followed by the equally prominent University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.
